HOW INFLUENCIAL NON-LITERARY LANGUAGE IS IN TODAY'S SOCIETY
Non-literary texts environ every facet of my life and any individual's life in a way that it forms an autonomous part of a publication in all divisions of the society. Ever since I was a child, newspapers, magazines, text books and other instructional materials have been a familiar sight to me, my father used to tell me that it is all educational and thereby useful in providing factual information and solutions to cater various human needs. When I learn how to read, I began noticing the disparity between non-literary language and literary language features. There distinct characteristics help me understand the role of non-literary and through this I appreciate literary texts which is more complex, creative and implicit in meaning. Consequently, knowing what relevance does non-literary language have will provide answers of how influencial it is in today's society as it generates both veracity and mendacity that bear upon how we perceive and interpret things directed to our understanding of the Society.
According to Gidding— Society is the union itself, the organisation, and the sum of formal relations in which associating individuals are bound together; The family, clans, tribes and the country are parts of the society constituting the web of social relationship. In accordance with this, one major component of society is conflict, it is evident in numerous ways and in various degrees that we have to grapple with. The real state of society is revealed by producing non-literary texts, these are different types of texts use to present the world of events, facts, and reality for readers (Newmark, 2004). Non-literary text mirrors the real complexity of human conflict through its language that bears the features of clarity and directness reiterating the society's story and history. It uses ordinary language that is not poetic and has no deviation for the readers to understand the unequivocal meaning and obtain forthright information intending to provide explicit awareness and veracity about various issues, conflicts, and happenings inside and outside the country. However, In this era of modern media where social media and social networking sites give access to millions of electronic books, online newspapers, articles, and journals about local and global information and news reports have also contributed to the rise of misinformation or what is known as “fake news”. Now, non-literary language styles has been imitated to fabricate news contents that spread faster than the authentic one. Corresponding to this we tend to draw up malleable concepts rather than precise and accurate data and knowledge that influence our views toward news credibility. Nevertheless, non-literary language formulates lucidity in meaning by using language in day to day communication and conversation to be easily understood by the public. It initiates proactive response as long as it is not utilize for the purpose of misleading the truth.
Non-literary text, as broad as it may seem, covers a wide range of texts from administrative documents to publicist texts that is concerned with facts, idea, information, and reality that will never be inane in the society. It has the ability to ignite perspicuous meaning with its systematic coherence of confined words and transfer of pragmatic information which requires precision and unambiguously stated terms. Online media landscape becomes prevalent and along with it comes the widespread of fictitious news stories that tend to afflict our judgement and deceive us by its fake and inaccurate non-literary works that is not explicit in nature.
